FAQs

Here you’ll find quick answers to the most common questions about our interior design service—from the steps involved in the process to timelines, costs, and follow-up.

What does an interior design project include?

An interior design project includes a survey and analysis of the existing space, a requirements specification, the development of the construction drawings (including detailed drawings and a descriptive report), the selection of materials and finishes, coordination with engineering teams as needed, on-site supervision, and project handover. Depending on the scope of the project, it may also include the application for permits from municipal authorities.

It depends on the scope and type of project. Interior renovations that do not affect the structure or facade may not require a permit or may only require prior notification. Structural renovations or changes in use require a building permit—the process can take between 2 and 6 months, depending on the municipality. Spacemakers handles the entire permitting process when applicable.

An architectural project typically consists of three phases with distinct timelines: design development (4 to 12 weeks, depending on complexity), permitting where applicable (2 to 6 months), and construction or renovation (3 to 18 months, depending on the project’s scope). From the initial briefing to final handover, medium-sized projects usually take between 8 and 18 months.

Architecture defines the structure and organization of a space—walls, openings, circulation, and the relationship between interior and exterior. Interior design focuses on the interior of the built space—materials, lighting, furniture, and décor. Atelier Spacemakers practices both disciplines, often in tandem, ensuring complete coherence from the structural framework down to the decorative details.
