Headquarters Lobby – City of Soccer

An entry into the history of Portuguese soccer.

Every year, Cidade do Futebol welcomes thousands of visitors from outside the FPF—institutional partners, foreign federations, sports delegations, journalists, and sponsors. Until the redesign, the lobby of the headquarters building was merely a place people passed through. The brief was clear: transform it into the first chapter—the place where the story begins before any meeting, before any conversation.

The Spacemakers studio was responsible for the interior design of the project, which transformed the lobby into a space for reception, exhibitions, and experiences.

The concept is based on the premise that the achievements of the Portuguese national teams do not belong in an archive; they belong to those who enter. The lobby was redesigned so that the most important titles in Portuguese soccer are the first thing any visitor encounters, displayed with museum-quality precision and to scale.

The display cases were designed and conceived according to museological and conservation standards: matte black structures with protective glass panels that ensure the physical safety of the trophies—shielding them from touch, humidity, and direct light—without compromising visibility or impact. Each display case is organized by group and identified with the achievement it represents, providing a clear overview of the team’s honors: from Euro 2016 to the Nations League, from beach soccer victories to wins in futsal and youth competitions.

In addition to the physical exhibits, each display features touchscreens built into the modules, allowing visitors to explore the history and key moments that defined each achievement—images, dates, players, and journeys. The history of Portuguese soccer is available at your fingertips.

The wooden slatted ceiling, which echoes the style of the existing building, and the cream-colored limestone flooring set the tone for the lobby: warm, understated, and dignified. The back wall, clad in light-colored stone panels, features the reception desk: a piece with a strong, angular design, featuring a perforated metal base with a circular pattern and a natural oak countertop.

The central area, highlighted by two large oval-shaped gray rugs, features a set of curved, cream-colored modular sofas—a lounge area that invites guests to linger. A large video wall embedded in the dark backdrop completes the immersive experience in the world of Brazilian soccer.

The result is a lobby that is just the right size for what it represents: the entrance to an institution steeped in history.
