The concept behind the DoubleTree by Hilton Azores is based on three elements that characterize São Miguel: wood, water, and stone.
The wood evokes the Laurissilva forest—with its lush flora, represented in the design through wooden surfaces and slats that create a rhythm of light and shadow. Water reflects the immensity of the Atlantic Ocean and the volcanic lagoons, expressed in the fluidity of the spaces and the transparency of the materials. Stone represents the island’s topography—evident in the diverse use of basalt and the hues of the ceramic tiles.
The terrain of São Miguel inspired the creation of a topographical skyline that runs through the lobby, the guest room corridors, and all of the hotel’s signage—an invisible yet omnipresent thread.
The 5-star hotel, designed and built from the ground up, spans four floors and features 101 rooms. Natural light takes center stage, with large windows that create a direct and fluid connection between the interior spaces and the island’s natural surroundings. On the first floor are the Wellness Center, meeting rooms, and the business center. On the fourth floor is the rooftop with a bar, outdoor restaurant, and pool—offering unique views of the Atlantic Ocean.
The Spacemakers project has been shortlisted for the prestigious International Hotel & Property Awards.
