This was a renovation project for a country estate in the Alentejo region that has been in the family for several generations. The main goal was to preserve the identity and essence of traditional Alentejo architecture while incorporating elements of contemporary comfort and functionality.
Traditional features such as the front porch have been preserved—serving as a transitional space between indoors and outdoors, a perfect spot for warm Alentejo afternoons, and a natural extension of the large living room, surrounded by a garden featuring century-old fig and walnut trees.
The former granary and stable have been converted into a spacious living and dining room, with high ceilings that enhance the sense of openness and brightness.
In interior design, the concept pays homage to the exuberance of the countryside while maintaining a balance between tradition and modernity. The inspiration drawn from nature is reflected in floral and artisanal patterns, in the repurposing of family heirlooms with the addition of vibrant colors, and in the selection of aged wood, hand-painted ceramics, and wrought iron—materials that evoke the artisanal traditions of the Alentejo region.
The result is a place that preserves its essence while meeting the needs of the present. More than just a renovation—it is a celebration of the history and spirit of the Alentejo.
